Screenprinting

A few examples from a screen Printing project that I was working on at the end of 2010.These images were based on wind channels that were attached to the outside of buildings in Hyderabad Sind in Pakistan. I am drawn to their diamond formations, which create a bizarre makeshift sky line.

I will be starting up a new Screen Printing next week. Looking forward to some more experimenting!

CRAG festival of light 2010

Home Sweet Home for 8 weeks.. You can just about see our caravan on the left!

Fire Sculpture number 1! David's masterpiece (with a teensy bit of welding and fire roping by Cass and I!)

Community Arts! Yeah!

Mermaid Sculpture, showing willow frame work

In the past year I have been getting more involved with Community Arts work in the Glasgow Area. In Autumn 2010 I went to work with the Carrick Rural Arts Group on their yearly Festival of Light and so re-located to a "luxury" caravan outside Girvan in South Ayrshire. 8 weeks working with willow in primary and secondary schools, community workshops, the scouts and local youth clubs to name a few resulted in the Lantern parade through Girvan in early November. As well as the workshops, I worked with artists Cassandra Barron and David Powell on creating and choreographing sculptural lanterns to lead the parade fitting the them, Lore and Legend. Willow turned out to be quite an interesting and maleable material to work with and despite being pretty new to working on large scale (at least double me!) sculpture, getting a crash course in welding and basic "electrician-ing" and the torrential rain on the evening of the parade, I was pretty pleased with the results, and it was nothing like the wickerman!

A couple of photographs from an installation using found objects, which I chose for their linear and geometric qualities. I suspended the objects in a stair well of an abandoned shop and used contrasting garish colours and projected lights to create my own nocturnal urban environment.

The photographs from this installation have now become art works in themselves. I am particularly interested in the vibrancy which they have when backlit and transparent.

Good Evening Blogosphere!

After much procrastination and head in the sand action (oh and a trip to a humongous scanner with a hefty backlog of drawings!), I have decided to get over my fear of technology any more complicated than "facebook" and start a blog. So here goes!!
